MOAR CLASSES (44,315)

dw: book
I'm declaring myself done now. My schedule would be so much prettier if I dropped the history and took a fine arts class Tues/Thurs in that gap, but I want to take the history class, dammit. I'll regret this later.

At least I don't have to change my work schedule much so Ashlee won't complain at me for making her life difficult.

MONDAY
9:40-10:30 HIST 3210 Age of Total War
11:50-1:45 COMM 3560 Video Production I
TUESDAY
9:10-10:30 COMM 2460 Communication Criticism
12:25-1:45 ENGL 2500 Intro Creative Writing
WEDNESDAY
9:40-10:30 HIST 3210 Age of Total War
11:50-1:45 COMM 3560 Video Production I
THURSDAY
9:10-10:30 COMM 2460 Communication Criticism
12:25-1:45 ENGL 2500 Intro Creative Writing
FRIDAY
9:40-10:30 HIST 3210 Age of Total War

Roomies and I are going out tomorrow. Movie, hair cuts, shopping, possible clubbing, the works. We're not going to be lame nerds who sit around at home and do nothing, oh no sir.

Classes (43,347 btw)

Okay, that little rant dealie last night helped out a lot, and I'm registered for 11 credit hours at the moment. I need to find one more class still to go full time, but that's looking a lot more doable at the moment.

Registration woes

  • Nov. 19th, 2009 at 10:52 PM
dw: book
Okay, so fall semester freshman year, I started college with the intent to be a chemistry major. That lasted maybe until midterms, heh. Adrift, spring semester I took a major exploration class in addition to some core classes I thought sounded fun, decided around the end of the semester on either communications or political science, and registered for this semester accordingly.

Now I know I'm definitely going to major in comm, and registration should in theory be easy, but it's not, because I can't apply to be a comm major until I get grades back from at least one comm class. I'm taking two this semester, but they do me a fat lot of good until grades post during winter break. This is problematic, because:

1) Some of the core courses I need to take for my major require major status to register for them. Um, I'll turn in the application and declare myself the very day grades post, I swear, but nooooo, I'll have to wait until next year before they'll let me register.

2) I need to have a second-year advising appointment with my major adviser, which I can't really do until I major. They've sent me three emails so far about the registration hold they'll put on my account in March if I don't meet with somebody by then, and suggested that I meet with a university college adviser if undeclared... but I do know my major. I just can't declare until the end of the semester.

3) I can't declare a minor until I've declared a major. This isn't as obnoxious since it's less pressing as I haven't even really decided on a minor yet (but comm is a 30 credit hour minimum major and I got most of my gen eds out of the way with AP classes so I know I'll eventually end up with one or two because I have nothing better to do) but it's still bugging me.

So basically nothing happens until grades post. And if they shut down the comm office over the break, nothing happens until January. Aargh, I hate it.

Speaking of minors... )

So imagine my surprise when I found people hanging out by the Union enlisting their children in handing out boxes of these "special editions" of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species, because somehow I remembered that ontdp post from September.

Cameron explains that this "very special" edition of the "Origin of Species" will include an introduction explaining "Adolf Hitler's undeniable connection" to the theory of evolution, and highlighting "Darwin's racism" and "his disdain for women." Cameron's edition also exposes the "many hoaxes" of evolutionary theory, while presenting a "balanced view of Creationism."

I can tell you, I can't wait to read the bullshit introduction. It should be very special, and I'm thinking afterward I might just rip it out like some commenters on that post mentioned, because it really is a pretty book.

So since the last time I posted I shared an excerpt from my NaNo, I was thinking this time I'd share the outline I started last week for the epic Pirates of the Caribbean fic I'm hoping to write a big chunk of this month in addition to finishing my novel proper because I amuse myself. Dudes, give me awesome ideas plz.

You know you're in trouble when it devolves into capslock )

And also apparently Johnny Depp got named sexiest man alive. Nothing against him, but I take issue with this.

3018 Writing about "The Simpsons" (3) Prerequisite: WRTG 2010 or equivalent. Fulfills Humanities Exploration.
This is a writing course that works through the lens of the animated TV show "The Simpsons" to explore the cultural contexts of post-modern satire. A key component is learning to write detailed analysis of these kinds of visual texts, as well as understanding the function such texts play in our collective cultural memory. Students also propose a satirical episode treatment utilizing the show's tableau of characters.

...wat

College is weird.

Writing for Entertainment Media isn't available next semester. I am rather sad-faced about this. (Registering for classes is haaaard)

A synopsis and an excerpt (28,759)

dw: book
So, um, I haven't been talking much, but I am alive. Been a bit preoccupied doing NaNoWriMo and, well, procrastinating instead of doing NaNo. I've occasionally been doing homework, but not nearly as often as I should be, I'm afraid. XD

Anyway, I've got a synopsis (from the 2nd) and now something good enough to post as an excerpt (from about an hour ago!) and I thought I'd post 'em like I did last year.

The synopsis could probably be updated since I outlined further today, but I don't want to put in the effort so nyeh. )

Creation myth

dw: book
So this morning instead of doing my vis comm reading or preparing my plot for nanowrimo, I wrote a 1300 word creation myth.

(Note: Moon has a gender, I just haven't decided which yet.)

In the beginning, there was the sky, Dí, for the sky is where the gods live. )

What is this? She lives??

Yep, it's that time of the year again where I talk about nothing but Nanowrimo. Thought I'd start a post to keep track of my reading list for nano. I'm completely crazy for attempting to do adventure/historical fiction, and I may back off and go for that YA novel I've been wanting to write instead. We'll see how it goes.

I'm officially moved into my apartment! The roomies would be here tonight, too, but their yard sale got postponed from last weekend due to rain (they're sisters) so they have to be home helping with that... lame.

I'm going to leave the library and go eat dinner now before I starve to death. I probably won't be online for a while until school starts Monday because we don't have internet set up at the apartment yet.
!flail, etc: covered in bees!
So, um, I got this idea from [info]rampant_chaos8 who did a youtube spam post, like, two weeks ago, but it's taken me this long because I wanted to finally go through all of my 200+ youtube favorites again. The only reason I'm done now is because I skipped all of the Whose Line videos I favorited. So, uh, here are some random highlights of 3 years of favorites.

There are not actually 200 videos under here, but it seems pretty close. )

Imagine you manage a coven of baseball-playing vampires. The Cullen family is really strong this year and you want to bring in a ringer. Which currently active MLB baseball player do you sire?

I knew that there was a reason I'm an obsessive packrat. I'd like to get my possessions boxed up for storage more thoroughly before moving to my apartment than I had bothered to do before moving into the dorms last year, which means reevaluating what I'm going to do with all my old school assignments my mom encouraged me to keep in large manilla accordion folders.

Here are some gems from my English "journal" from 2003, which would make me 13 and I believe is 8th grade.

I am possibly the only person in the world who will find these amusing. )

Roomie and her sister and I spent TEN HOURS driving around Salt Lake City yesterday, looking at apartments. Actually, to be more precise, I spent ten hours driving because my dad's car is the only one with a/c and decent gas mileage.

Wherein there is apartment hunting, textbook purchases, and talk of frozen yogurt )

I have a sudden craving for NPR RPF. Someone please tell me this exists! (you know, outside of JoCo's "Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance")

...I think the only way that first sentence could get any nerdier would be if I had referenced Star Trek somehow. Or possibly quantum physics.

BAHAHAHA I just barely realized that both of my claims for [info - community] polybigbang are live-action Disney movies. It's not what it looks like, guys, I swear! I have classy fandoms toooooo. (Okay, maybe I don't)

Oh, and my little brother is watching TMNT right now.
I forget which one said this: We have been cooped up inside for a long time. Who's up for a little late-night entertainment?
Me: Turtle orgy, whaaa? Oh! Not in that way! Duh.

I think I have pr0n on the brain.

1. I signed up for [info]polybigbang earlier today, because I am clearly insane. One claim for a Newsies ship that I haven't yet determined and one for Pirates, which will probably end up being mildly AU Jack/Elizabeth/Norrington (henceforth Sparringbeth, because it's shorter and amuses me.) I'm way too excited about this! I've needed a real excuse to write über-long fic for forever.

2. My roomie and I are total dorks. This is from our chat at work today:

Thank you for calling 1-800-VAMPIRE, how can I be of assistance? )

Children of Earth

(For some reason, even though I renewed my DW paid account a week ago, it still hasn't been processed. This means I have been left with no disapproving icons, and I feel like my expressiveness has been extremely limited. :\ )

OH HI THERE I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN A WHILE.

I finally gave in and watched Children of Earth in a five-hour sitting last night. I have a lot of complex thinky thoughts about it, so I'm going to see if I can get them all written down here before I have to go get ready to go camping (yay!).

tl;dr with massive Torchwood (and Doctor Who) spoilers under the cut. Also, swearing. )

Boy, that felt good to get out of my system. I really need to have a good long tl;dr like this more often.

See y'all Tuesday. I'm going camping!
